Risks and Dependencies
There are several risks/Threats that could threaten to push this FYP firmly off the table for good. These are:
A government shutdown meaning that i have done something fundamentally wrong (angered the ASA or copy protection services):
This is unlikely provided I make sure that i stay within acceptable boundaries at all times regarding the ASA and copy protection services, this risk is primarily from YouTube who become increasingly worried about users breaching copy write on their site especially when uploading gameplay footage. All of the gameplay footage that I use is either confirmed by the developers in writing or the terms of use that I follow is set down in their video policy to begin with.
Sudden extreme drop in userbase for a unforseen reason:
Whilst being extremely unlikely, it could one day come to fruition that Archon eSports gains a bad reputation and subsequently has a massive drop in users. This could be if any controversy were to be stirred up. For example if something unpalatable were to be left in content whilst it was being broadcast. In order to minimise this threat it is a strict rule that there must be no pre-watershed language etc. used in any VoD. Live streaming is a little more lenient, but as a general rule I try to follow Ofcom rules as one day Ofcom may regulate the internet.
Changes in video policies:
As stated under the first risk i maintain all of my content under each developer’s video policy, if one of these were to change it could haemorrhage our content from us. This is extremely unlikely however, as many of these companies rely on expanding their eSports grip by allowing entities like Archon eSports to exist.
Technical failure:This is slightly more likely, that one day something might set fire or explode under the enormous pressure I put the computers under. This is still yet is covered as there is a backup computer that should last long enough for the main computer to get back into running order.
Minimising general risks
The use of SWOT for short term risks and Pest for long term strategy is the best way to counter act any negative situations. the regular renewal of these systems can help to avoid any catastrophe’s that may come my way.
Contingency Plan
There may come a time where unfortunately Archon eSports might prove to be an impossible goal for one reason or another. in order to reduce the fallout if this were to happen it is a healthy idea to have a contingency plan, as if my FYP were to be flipped I would like to have a decent plan as not to fail the third year. Although Archon eSports would probably carry on in some form ( i would feel obligated to continue because of current subscribers and viewers) it would be no more.
So the question would remain, would i stay in the business genre or would i make a drama documentary or even have a look into photography? the answer is i would probably make a drama piece roughly 10 minutes long where all dialogue in the piece is replaced by arbitrary noise relating to the emotional state of the character.
It would be filmed in a arty style and all of the sound in the production would be foley. The whole production would chronicle the journey of an everyday man whos travel ends in tragic and bizarre consequences. It would have a semi gothic look with sepia tones, think graphic novel, lots of greys and blacks, making the audience feel cold, and isolated.
