Method / Craft
Here I have written many articles of research for the various techniques that I have used whilst implementing my FYP since the beginning of January 2012 it includes some research in guide form (the streaming and Tricks for PC speed pages in particular), as I found that I had already been working from experience for most of 2012.

Creating Webpages for dummies 9 Books in 1. There is no one section of this book that i found useful rather the whole book. This book is a one stop guide to creating webpages in a professional manner it even looks at optimising for search engines witch is something that is rarely looked at in such books but is so important. All of the research that i have found from this book and my previous experiences can be found in the Methods section under the web design link. The book itself even goes in depth about coding as a resource of how to achieve practicality in web design and digital media it is a must. Game Design and Development: Introduction to the Game Industry. Game genres There are so many genres in gaming such as Action-Adventure, First person shooters, Realtime strategy and Electronic Sports just to list some. (Please note that the genre of Electronic Sports within gaming does not relate to eSports. eSports its the act of covering any game genre in a competitive manner.) The genre of the game will broadly influence what audience demographic are attracted to it. for example a casual gamer will be attracted to a first person shooter game largely because of the fast time it takes to get into a game and the turnaround time once a game ends. Other genres of games are considered better at drawing in different audiences and provoking different responses from the communities that are built around them. For example, whilst first person shooters are known for being a casual audience dominated genre, first person shooters and MOBAS are much better for the eSports environment as they give the actual audience of the eSport (watching commentary's etc) the opportunity to have a more organised game to watch as they are generally far less chaotic than FPS Genres. Action Adventure, and puzzle games such as 'Lara Croft, Tomb Raider' offer a single player experience over the competitive edge. There are also a abundance of sports games, for golf, cricket, football etc. but again please note that despite being called electronic sports games they have very little to do with eSports itself. 'You're on!' Webcasting while the definition of this can vary wildly its general definition is broadcasting audio and video over internet. Much webcasting resides on YouTube, a video sharing website owned by Google. YouTube acts as a excellent base where artists can upload videos for the world to see. There is a degree of amateur trial and error presentation in webcasting as the format will generally improve as time goes on relating to feedback gained by the audience. However the most popular content usually has a hook in order to draw its audience in such as being witty, sharp or otherwise. The audience for the medium of Webcasting is generally younger and technologically savvy. The system of direct feedback and rating systems means that generally the best content comes to the top making webcasting a very competitive form of media. Computer Games Text, Narrative and Play.
Games and Gender While gaming is a typically a male activity there has to be some way in making a dormant female audience interested in the medium. This is a difficult task because nearly everything outgoing of the games industry is directed at the male audience. While statistics and stereotypes say that males are the dominant gender in gaming this may only be in certain countries. female gamers represent 27.7% of all British gamers and on average spend 7.1 hours a week playing; but in the US and parts of Asia, namely Korea and Japan females can represent as much as 50% of the overall gaming communities. Females can feel alienated by the fact that gaming is so obviously directed at males, through the way the characters look, relating to gender. While the industry is doing its best over recent years to broaden its horizons to include female gamers as well as male there is still a large gap in the industry for Females. It may be worthwhile including more events for female gamers such as tournaments just as their male peers have. Understanding Video games The essential Introduction. The Games Industry The games industry relies largely on what new hardware has been released. The industry tends to work in a series of waves, when a new console / game is released the industry will be financially safe. It also covers a difference between Consoles and PC, where the PC platform almost exclusively holds the rights over the following gaming genres: Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, Strategy Games and First Person shooters. One reason the PC seems to have slightly more success than consoles in competitive gaming is because it is considered far easier to pirate console games onto PC therefore instead of the audience buying the product they will just pirate it instead, therefore not showing up on sales figures. of course this is not ethical at all and should never be encouraged. While the console platforms (Xbox, PS3 Wii) generally bring in more sales this does not relate to eSports in a relative term as the PC is generally used for online and competitive play.
