Social Media Application
For the industry that I am in it is very important to understand the internet and how it can be effective on bringing in an audience especially when you have something worth watching that will help your advertising revenue. Some of these sites are the obvious sites for the job, IE twitter Facebook and so on but others, such as Reddit have a very decent set of uses indeed.
Twitter is important for making friends and networking with people, letting people know exactly what is going on. For example my non live videos are all hosted by YouTube, whenever I upload a video onto YouTube my Twitter account tweets about it automatically. This is important to keep the audience in the know about what is currently going on in your site. It is also easier to post updates about events that you are going to or have been to on as they will classically get more exposure if you connect your tweet with somebody else or try to make it trending with a hash tag.

Twitter also has very nice customization options like being able to set your own background and colour scheme. There are also plug ins for websites that exist that are extremely useful as they act as a rolling news feed especially as it updates when new content is released.
Facebook has been around a lot longer than Twitter has and in that degree people may find it much more familiar. It acts as a really good noticeboard for what is going on currently it also allows users to comment on posts in a very organised fashion and in greater detail than can be seen on Twitter because of the character limit on tweets. Facebook also allows for networking with other organisations in a more visual manner.

Facebook also has the ability to create groups. This means that many people can talk about one subject in a kind of forum. When setting up or going to events it is also important not to overlook Facebook in its organisational capacity.
Google+
Google+ is a very new social media platform many would say it has been a bit of a failure, but none the less people seem to use it to network in a professional capacity. It isn't a platform that I have seen used to a great effect anywhere, at the time it came out it made certain waves, but audiences were already too engrossed in Facebook to take advantage of Google+ none the less, I feel it is an important platform to at least keep an eye on.
Reddit is essentially a giant forum where the most interesting and current articles come to the top, but Reddit is more complicated than that, it has several 'sub Reddits' about many different topics. This makes it a very accessible place to promote content as it is easy to post content directly concerning the sub Reddit and get an instant audience. Also when something becomes popular on Reddit it goes to the top very quickly thus getting more exposure.
